Interesting title? Today is my first attempt at a mini tutorial and it's based on this Valentine for my husband:
Grunge Heart:
The heart is from idea-ology Element set and I based the patchwork off an inspirations piece from Tim Holtz. I flipped the heart over and actually drew lines with my ruler to determine where I would cut (I only had one large heart). And the MOST important hint I can give you if you try this is you need make a map and label the backs of your pieces so that you know where are they go to put your "heart back together" pun intended.
Here's my Map:
I painted the pieces with metallic Ranger paint dabbers (I used my map to write the paint colors on first so that I would not have pieces that were the same color or texture next to each other).
Painted Pieces:
I used the cuttlebug embossing folders to create the texture and lightly sanded each piece (in this photo only the gold ones are sanded).
Antiquing:
I then dabbed some of the black acrylic paint on my craft sheet and spritzed a puddle of water next to the paint and used my finger to antique the pieces with a mixture of the water and paint.
I then glued the heart onto heart shaped card stock, put stitching holes and wire stitched on the heart.
Drunken Scotch Tutorial
See the Rusty Key on the card? I call this technique Drunken Scotch. The steps are pretty easy...
Here are the supplies:
Cover the grunge with a generous amount of glue all over (I've only tried this clear glue):
Drop on your colors of Alcohol Inks - it will move across the glue:
Heat with your heat gun (it will bubble) and the results:
I like how this now looks like a rusted, textured key!
Here are a few other pieces:
This technique works on both grunge board and chip board.
Hope you like the technique - let me know what you think and if you give it a try!
Happy Creating!
KAT
The Stuff:
Inks - Tea Dye, Walnut Stain, Black Soot Distress Ink (Ranger)
Alcohol Inks - Rust, Ginger (Ranger)
Acrylic Paint Dabbers - Silver, Gold, Copper, Black (Ranger)
Other - Cuttlebug embossing folders, sanding block (idea-ology), Scotch Scrapbookers Glue
Elements Grungeboard (idea-ology), Tiny Attacher (idea-ology)

That's it, I'm just letting you know RIGHT NOW that I am totally swiping the ideas from this card. Sue me if you must. THIS IS FANTASTIC!!!! I just did some embossed metal for my Valentines, but I'm not happy with it, sooo.... that drunken scotch technique, HOLY CRAP! I don't have that glue, but I'm willing to try others to see if it works...I'll let you know, provided I don't pass out from burning glue....
Kat this is gorgeous and what a great technique . . . well of course I would like it, drunken scotch.
Love the heart but the Drunken Scotch is FANTASTIC!! Will try that right away...(read: on the weekend).

love this look. thanks for the tutorial. will have to try something similiar.
Great tutorial! TFS! Beautiful card!
Great tutorial, and I love, love, LOVE your card! Especially the curled background paper--was that plain paper that you inked? I've done your "Drunken Scotch" technique with Elmer's glue and re-inkers, then mixed with my finger and heated--kind of 'bubbles', then relaxes. Give good texture.
This is awesome!!! Love the card and the technique is really cool... have to try that!!!
Kathy, girl, you never cease to amaze me with the fun things you come up with!!!! Seriously, this drunken Scotch technique is looking awesome and I'll have to try it. I am sure your DH will absolutely love this card!! Hugs, Sabrina

great 1st tut. I am so stealing your card. I made a card for dh but I'm doing it over. No wonder I end up with so many extra cards. Now if I can just remember where I put the grandkids cards. They popped in and I had to hide them quick, now I can't find them.
What a cool technique!

loving the drunken scotch. I have just tried it with crystal effects and reinkers (both SU!) and it really works a treat. I had to 'blend the reinkers a little with a pin. Thanks so so so much for this. Emma xx

Hi
I have done a couple of heritage layouts recently using your drunken scotch tutorial to rust up embelishments. It works great and makes them look really old. I have them on my blog if you wanted to take a look, one I just posted and the other layout can be found in my archive under Great Grandfather. I put a link back to your tutorial for both of them. Thank you for such a great idea.
My blog is http://letsgetscraphappy.blogspot.com/
